Federal holidays

A federal holiday means most federal offices are closed on these days. Also, many employers give their employees a holiday on those days. Schools are also closed in observance of the holidays. Banks and store are closed or have shorter hours on federal holidays.

How the holiday is observed if the holiday is on a Saturday or Sunday? When a federal holiday falls on a Saturday, it is observed on the preceding Friday. On the other hand, the holiday is observed on the following Monday if it falls on a Sunday.
